During the conference Boating Economic Forecast at the Genoa Boat Show the new edition of Nautica in Cifre was presented, a study carried out by UCINA Confindustria Nautica in collaboration with Fondazione Edison.
The turnover of the nautical sector in 2018 amounted to 4.27 billion euros, marking a growth of 10.3% on 2017, a consolidated growth over the last four years. The recovery, after the 2013 lows, has been continuous and with a progression that no other sector has been able to achieve.
The other data therefore confirm the trend, with an increase in the number of employees, which grew by over 23% on 2017 and an impact on GDP of 2.02%, up 10.6% on the previous year.
With regard to turnover, the shipbuilding industry prevails, reaching 64.5% of the total, followed by accessories with 27.1% and engines with 8.4%.
Export numbers are also positive: Italy confirms its leadership in the production of superyachts (boats over 24 meters) collecting 46% of world orders. Same before also in the pneumatic unit sector with a dimension of more than 7 meters. These figures bring the nautical sector to be the ninth sector among those most grown in terms of exports in the last twenty years.
As far as the main foreign markets are concerned, the United States ranks first with 23.9% of exports from Italy of pleasure boats, worth 476 million dollars.
Needless to say, it is not just about quantity but also quality and even excellence. The support of the government will be fundamental for a sector that can represent a spearhead of the Italian economy.
